PFLAG Chapter Scholarship Programs

PFLAGers everywhere are dedicated to a bright future for LGBTQ youth. Many PFLAG chapters have scholarship programs as well. Students are eligible to receive scholarships from both their local chapter and PFLAG National.

PFLAG California Chapter Scholarships

PFLAG Napa

PFLAG Napa invites all students, who have demonstrated outstanding support for the LGBT community at their school or in the community at large, to apply for a scholarship funded through the Rykken/Scull LGBT Memorial Fund. Students are eligible to apply if they are a high school seniors anticipating graduation in 2017 and are planning to enroll in a university or college, technical school, performing arts school or art college. Persons who have graduated prior to 2017 or students currently attending one of the above-mentioned institutions are also encouraged to apply. Applicants must be residents of Marin, Mendicino, Napa, or Sonoma Counties. PFLAG Sacramento

PFLAG Sacramento awards $1,000 scholarships each spring. Known as the Follensbee Scholarship (named for PFLAG Sacramento chapter founders Rev. and Mrs. Merrill Follensbee), graduating high school seniors from the Sacramento area who will attend college in the fall are eligible. In addition, applicants must identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, and/or transgender. Application packets are available by contacting the chapter at  contact@pflagsacramento.org or the chapter Vice President at npbarth@earthlink.net. Application deadline is in early May each year.

PFLAG San Diego

PFLAG San Diego County offers four $1,000 scholarships to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender youth. Applicants must reside in San Diego County, or attend a school in San Diego County. Information about this scholarship program can be found at www.pflag.com/.

PFLAG San Jose/Peninsula

Seniors attending high school or residing in San Mateo or Santa Clara counties are invited to apply for $3000.00 scholarships to attend two-year or four-year colleges or business/technical schools in the fall. Up to eight scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors of any gender identity or sexual orientation, whose history, activities and personal plans demonstrate support for justice and equality for the GLBTQQ community. Generally, applications are available in late January, and the deadline for submission is late March. Winners are notified in mid-April, and they are celebrated at a chapter meeting in early May. PFLAG Santa Rosa

PFLAG South Orange County

Outstanding graduating high school seniors and college/vocational students are encouraged to apply for the 2017 scholarships offered through PFLAG South Orange County.  Monetary awards of up to $2,500.00 are available to residents (or children of residents) of Orange County between the ages of 17-24 who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, or queer/questioning, and to straight allies who have directly supported LGBTQI youth and/or the LGBTQI community. PFLAG Ukiah
