Burger King Scholars Program

Created in memory of BURGER KING® Co-founder James “Jim” W. McLamore, the BURGER KING℠ Scholars program has awarded $35 million in scholarships to more than 33,000 high school students, BK® employees and their families across the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico since 2000. In 2018 alone, the Foundation awarded $3.7 million to more than 3,400 students in North America.

Scholarship grants range from $1,000 to $50,000 and are intended to help students offset the cost of attending college or post-secondary vocational/technical school. Recipients are selected based on their grade point average (GPA), work experience, extracurricular activities and community service.

Annual Amount

$1,000 to $50,000

Additional Selection Criteria

The requirements to become a BURGER KING℠ Scholar are simple. You must apply within the application period, and fit the prerequisites below:

  • Be a high school senior, BURGER KING® employee, spouse/domestic partner or child of an employee.

High school students should be graduating seniors with plans to attend a two- or four-year accredited university, college or vocational-technical school in the U.S., Canada or Puerto Rico. BK® employees can further their education by using the scholarship for non-degree courses such as accounting, computer or language courses.

If you want to go a step further, the McLamore Family Foundation created the James W. McLamore WHOPPER® Scholarship Award, granting a $50,000 scholarship to three students each year since 2011.
